Meeting about abandoned Uranium Mine cleanup - Thursday May 12, 2011Defenders, The following meeting is regarding the Riley Pass abandoned uranium mine in the North Cave Hills Area. This is a huge mine and the company that was to participate in the clean-up, which will total in the billions of dollars, has gone bankrupt. The original plans for the cleanup were very questionable and would not have adequately held the radioactive pollution. Among the questions to be asked is what about the other 88 abandoned mines in this area, as there are 89 abandoned mines. When will the other 88 be cleaned up? Those of you who can attend, please do so. Because of our continued presence at their meetings and asking questions, the US Forest Service has done more to begin cleanup than at any other place. We need to keep the public pressure on as the public's health is what is affected. Thank you. Charmaine White Face, Coordinator
